Wilderness Immersion for Self Esteem
The WISE Teen programs consists of a one week intensive of 6 nights/7 days, where youth aged 13-16 spend two nights/three days on a hiking trip in the Purcell mountains. Participants learn outdoor survival skills in a wilderness setting, working cooperatively to ensure a safe, rewarding experience for everyone involved. Games and activities are developed to promote trust and communication in the group and learn about the local flora, fauna, and indigenous lore. Back at the tipi camp, four experienced adult facilitators lead the group in reflective activities, canoe trips, hikes, cliff-jumping expeditions, arts and crafts, and campfire games. Three vegetarian meals per day and baked desserts and snacks are provided. In case of injury, a qualified first aid attendant accompanies the group at all times.
Foundational to the program is the goal to develop a deepened respect for ourselves, each other, and the natural environment that we live in.
